Ed, our loving son, father, brother, grandfather and friend passed away Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, with his loving family by his side. Ed grew up in Southern California and attended Northview High School in Covina where he lettered in football and wrestling. He moved to San Luis Obispo County in 1996 to be close to his family. He worked in the food in industry, and later at a seed company in San Luis Obispo. Ed was a true sports fan. He loved all California teams, especially the Dodgers, Lakers and Raiders. Ed enjoyed all forms of entertainment, including movies, TV and music. When Ed moved to the Central Coast, he became a member of AA. He was very proud of his sobriety. The family wishes to thank the staff at Bayside Care Center and the Hospice staff for their loving care and support. Ed is survived by his parents, Ruben and Lucy Cortez; daughter, Summer (Jon) Hartshorn; grandsons Devin and Mason; brother, Fred (Myra) Cortez; brother, Art (Gloria) Cortez; sister, Barbara (Hugh) Mackintosh; sister, Sara (Dan) Haskell; partner, Kathleen Rogers and her daughters Chelsea and Chloe; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at the Chapel of the Roses, 3450 El Camino Real in Atascadero. Ed would not have wanted to see a sea of black, so please wear ''happy'' colors, Dodger, Lakers or Raiders attire or whichever team Ed would have teased you about. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Partners of the Central Coast, 277 South Street, Ste. R, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401. At 55, he left us way too early. We will miss his smile and that sparkle in his eyes, but we will never forget our Ed.
